Rutgers should win solely going by the numbers tonight. RU beat Fairfield 68-53 and Norfolk St. 83-59, while the Hawks beat those teams 60-51 (on the road) and 70-65. St. Joe's has two bad losses to PSU and Western Kentucky, and Rutgers has looked stronger with each game, defying expectations in a good way. Still, this one will be on the road, and the Scarlet Knights need to prove that they can win away from the RAC.
In that sense, tonight matters a lot as a crucial non-conference test. Rutgers men's basketball is clearly improved, but this game will go a long way towards determining whether they're merely mediocre, or deserve higher expectations.
