Rutgers football recruiting update for the week of 10/12

Committed Players

RB Ben Martin returned for Absegami, only to injure his ankle again.

TE Tyler Kroft is ranked the best pass catcher in southeastern Pennsylvania. Kroft caught three passes for thirty five yards last week, including the winning score.

DE Kyle George is also playing tight end.

DT Al Page finally returned from his bruised intensines.

ATH Chevelle Buie was 12 for 51 with a score as Cocoa rolled to its 30th straight win.

Uncommitted Players

It's hard to find higher praise for NJ RB Savon Huggins than this ESPN Rise article. Huggins and SPP steamrolled Union City. His teammate S Sheldon Royster plans to visit Rutgers, South Carolina, and Miami.

Oregon could soon offer PA teammates DE Branden Jackson and DT/OL Delvon Simmons. PSU (who still have only four verbal commits, but lead for a few other guys who'll announcer after the season) is showing interest in Simmons. Pitt, in their ongoing quest to sign twelve defensive ends this year, is trying to get back involved with the pair too.

2012 NJ OL Ryan Brodie, a teammate of Miles Shuler at Long Branch, is currently looking at Rutgers. Shuler played well against Matawan, but threw an interception to clinch the loss. Per Scott Stump Shuler plans to visit Northwestern and is down to a top 5.

This interview with NJ QB Tanner McEvoy is behind a Cablevision paywall.

NJ WR Damiere Byrd visited South Carolina for their win over Alabama.

NJ TE Jack Tabb won't be able to visit Arkansas for their Alabama game.

2012 PA RB Desmon Peoples is one of several Archbishop Wood prospects.

RU has offered 2012 MD WR Deontay McManus.

Does FL DB Larry Franklin have an offer? FL DE Ricardo Williams is not planning to visit Rutgers. FL OL Errin Joe isn't talking RU. FL DB Kevin Grooms is likely to visit Rutgers. RU has offered 2012 FL QB Tyler Cameron. FL OL Kaleb Johnson just visited South Carolina.

There's enough controversy as is in New Jersey when it comes to the issue of high school teams allegedly recruiting players. If that practice is allowed to occur out in the open, what you get is DeMatha vs. Good Counsel in Maryland.
