Meet 2011 lineman Angelo Mangiro, one of the top prospects in the state next year.
Rutgers is the early leader for 2011 Neptune RB Charles Davis.
"They’re my number one school," he admitted. "I thought about committing but I’m just gonna wait a while and see what else comes. But right now that’s where I want to go."
BTW, the Rivals DB now shows an offer out to 2011 prospect Vincent Croce out of Maryland. Scout is showing an offer to RB Derrick Wilson out of CT.
Only five touchdowns for Chas Dodd last week? Yawn.
There was an interesting HS football matchup last week, when J.T. Tartacoff and Montgomery met Tyrone Johnson (who's described as leaning towards basketball over football)'s Plainfield squad. Tartacoff is versatile.
The Montgomery senior played seven different positions in Friday's 24-13 win over Plainfield: wide receiver, running back, quarterback, safety, kick returning and punt returner. Eight if you count holder for placekicks.
Jarrett Darmstatter is still deciding between Rutgers and BC.
What have we here, with Maryland lineman Shane Johnson?
One new school has jumped into the mix.
<!-- article-left_skinny -->"Rutgers is in there now too," he said. "I really like their head coach and the line coach. Their facilities are great too."
Florida DT Richard Ash has Rutgers on his list, or doesn't (brief mention of his teammate Antonio Ford in that one too).
Ash is a 6-foot-3, 263-pound defensive tackle and is weighing his options between Florida, Florida State, Southern Cal, Tennessee and Ole Miss
FL S Jeremy Deering is visiting Purdue for their Notre Dame game, and also plans to visit South Carolina and Illinois. Another new Florida offer is DT Kenneth Kirksey.
So, Dominique Easley wants to represent New York City, even though he doesn't want to play close to home? Khairi Fortt will decide between PSU and UGA.
Maryland athlete Josh Furman visited Michigan over the weekend.
One other thing to watch: two Byrnes (S.C.) teammates on defense landed at Tennessee over the weekend. You have to hope that they can't lure Marcus Lattimore in a package with them to Knoxville, because that would make South Carolina more of a player with Mustafa Greene.
Paul Franklin: high school booster clubs take hold.
With their Florida billboards, Tennessee and Ed Orgeron are taking their cue from Rutgers.
Ouch, losing Corey Brown to the Buckeyes is rough. Would be nice to land Tejay Johnson for that playmaker role. Florida athletes Darius Millines and Travis Bell committed to WVU. Fullback Zach Zwinak committed to PSU over VT, and WR Shakim Phillips committed to BC over RU. Honestly, not super concerned about not getting Phillips.
Watchlist: Sherard Cadogan, Quentin Gause, Zach Greenwald, Malcolm Griggs (lots of great GMC coverage recently in the THNT), Brandon Hill, Dwayne Randall, Antonio Sibilia, and Rashaun Smith.
