Big East camp dispatches

The Big East will announce later today a finalized agreement with the Champs Sports Bowl. ND 1/4 instead of 2/4 is nice, but as I argued last week, not very meaningful. Sun is reportedly close, but still in negotiations. Let's just hope it doesn't evaporate at the last minute like the Liberty Bowl did four years ago.

Cincy's ticket sales are up 8.4%. It's hard following the Bearcats, given that the Enquirer and Brian Bennett's blog are basically the only sites/publications that cover them.

Who's going to catch passes for UConn? Randy Edsall on QB Zach Frazer: "his accuracy could be better".

There's a lot of uncertainty right now in Louisville camp with all of their incoming junior college transfers, but their QB situation is as up in the air as any spot. One bright spot could be Dexter Heyman in his new role as a DE.

In an interesting contrast to how Dom Natale has stepped up in camp, Bill Stull's hold on the Pittsburgh starting quarterback job appears to be slipping away. For all the Cignetti hype, it'll be a shame if they don't have anyone to get Jonathan Baldwin the ball. All of Pitt's recruits qualified except for receiver Todd Thomas. By the way, I know freshman Dion Lewis looked great in the spring for them at RB, but I can't help but think that Ray Graham is good enough to force his way into that discussion.

USF RB Mike Ford was suspended for two cupcake games. Even though he's the freak athlete (when he's on the field), Ford was not working as a starter. Season ticket sales are down in Tampa. Seven USF February signees did not qualify. Other freshmen are looking good, even though JUCO DE Jason Pierre-Paul is still waiting to practice.

Lots of bad news out of Syracuse lately. The team looks listless in practice. Their offensive line depth chart is a nightmare. Following all the spring attrition, Syracuse brought in a JUCO safety in May to be their starting weakside linebacker. He just left the team, and his replacement is a true freshman. But hey, Greg Paulus is officially the starting QB.

West Virginia's defense is looking good in camp. As expected, Jock Sanders is back on the team. Receiver Deon Long didn't qualify, and they're still waiting on lineman Tevita Finau to be cleared.
