3/31 Recruiting Update

Jake Kaufman is receiving more interest.

Kaufman has over a half-dozen written scholarship offers including Rutgers, Pitt, Michigan and Georgia. He also has a number of verbal offers.

"He has seven or eight concrete offers in writing," Hansen said. "Then there are also Cincinnati, South Carolina, North Carolina, Maryland, Penn State, Ohio State and Florida."

Kevin Haplea added another offer from Purdue. He was also just honored by the New Jersey Football Coaches Association, and visited PSU and Pittsburgh over the weekend.

Khairi Fortt is probably the best prospect in the Northeast this year.

Fortt's next task is culling his list. He said he wants to narrow it down to 10 or 12 schools by the end of May, and have it pared to five by the end of the scholastic football season.

"There's not one single biggest factor, but three factors,'' Fortt said. "The biggest factor is definitely academic. It also depends on the depth chart, I don't want to be like the 11th linebacker coming in. Also, I have to decide whether I want to stay close to home or go far away from home. I was thinking I'd like to play where it's warm, but there's a lot of teams that play football in cold weather."

Malcolm Yowk has added an offer from Stanford.

"There are a couple schools I like, but no one in particular stands out," he said. "The biggest thing I want is to feel comfortable whenever I go on campus. Obviously I want a good education, that’s probably the most important thing. I’m looking at probably business or sports medicine."

The Rivals database now lists tight end Jarrett Darmstatter as having a Rutgers offer. Florida back Brandon Gainer just added a RU offer, along with Florida athlete Tarean Austin and South Carolina WR Torian Richardson.

Maryland receiver E.J. Scott has added a Wisconsin offer. Rutgers recently offered his teammate, Stanford commit Louis Young.

Frederick County Maryland is loaded this year, with Ego Ferguson, Zach Zwinak, Nick Forbes, and Rob Havenstein.

ESPN has a long recap up of last weekend's Nike Combine in Miami, which has information on a lot of the Rutgers targets this year in South Florida.

Even though he committed to Florida, Demar Dorsey plans to take visits.

Husker Journal recently spoke with (scroll down) Florida players Cody Riggs, De'Joshua Johnson, and Marvin Robinson. Neither seems that interested in Rutgers. Nor does Brent Benedict. LaMarcus Joyner is focused on Ohio State and Florida. Ivan McCartney isn't really mentioning RU, and is rumored to be a Miami lean.

Nothing new with Brian Vogler.

Watchlist: Dwayne Bailey, C.J. Jones, Bennett Jackson, Jeff Knox, Jimmy Lawson, and E.J. Schneider. Jackson in particular is a guy to watch, Stumpy's All Shore blog mentions that Rutgers is interested in him (and other prospects, including Darmstatter).

Andy Staples decries the AAUization of football recruiting.

One poster on mgoblog is looking into doing a definitive statistical study of recruiting rankings.
