Marcus Witherspoon is headed to Rutgers University on a Division I college football scholarship.
The 2008 Holy Spirit graduate said Friday night that he will be at class and practice on Monday. The NCAA on Friday declared him academically eligible to play.
The move caps a tumultuous month for the linebacker. He left the University of Michigan last week after being declared ineligible.
"I'm blessed," Witherspoon said. "They (Rutgers) won't regret it. I'm so happy."
Rutgers could not be reached for comment Friday night.
That's what I get for being too depressed to look at my RSS feeds earlier. But this is seriously great news. Under rough circumstances, Rutgers just added a blue-chipper that could write his own ticket. The staff spent last night at games throughout the state, and they're not going to give up the class without a fight.
