8/26 Recruiting update

Is Malcolm Bush a soft commit?

MALCOLM BUSH, TE, (6-5, 235, Hackensack, NJ): Bush recently changed his commitment to Rutgers from a solid verbal to a soft verbal and is hoping to attract the attention of more big name schools.

Nyshier Oliver has decommitted from Tennessee. Look for him to end up at Notre Dame as a WR.

Nyshier Oliver, who committed to Tennessee in June, has re-opened his recruitment and plans to visit other schools this fall.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound athlete from St. Peter’s Prep in Jersey City, N.J., informed UT’s coaches last weekend, according to Oliver’s father, Theodore Oliver.

Oliver said his son still favors UT but wants to make sure it’s the right choice.

Florida seems to be looming as a threat with Antwan Lowery.

While many top national prospects are having trouble cutting their scholarship offer list down to a number they could count on one hand, Miami Columbus DT Antwan Lowery had no problem with it.

"Florida, Rutgers and Clemson," Lowery told Sporting News Today. "I might hold on until signing day (for the final decision). I’m going to try to take a couple (visits) during the season, and then the others after the season. I don’t have any (visit) dates yet."

The 6-foot-4, 335-pound lineman is rated a four-star prospect by both Rivals.com and Scout.com. As a junior, he had 75 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and three sacks.

He has a firm grasp of what he’s looking for in his future school.

"I care about the graduation rate, how much playing time I would get early, and the history of the school and football team," Lowery told SN Today. "And how many D-linemen go to the NFL from there."

Lowery will play in his team’s kickoff classic next Friday against Miami Belen Jesuit.

We must be confident that we'll land a top target, as we're not recruiting North Plainfield DT Tyson Chandler.

More bad news on the RB front?

14. De’Antwan Williams, 5-7, 202 RB, Woodbridge – Don’t let the size fool you; academics may be a bigger issue. Likes Maryland.

RU probably won't take another DB, but they're still in contact with Natturner Harris.

Among the schools Harris lists as the most frequent callers are: Rutgers, Florida State, Central Florida, West Virginia, Boston College, NC State, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, and Florida.

Ohio State has offered 2010 RB (and teammate of Tom Savage) Corey Brown. Guess where he'll be next week?

"I know for a fact I’m going to the Rutgers-Fresno State game."

Maryland corner Travis Hawkins has dropped RU.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Hawkins said he trimmed his list of prospective schools down to five last week with Maryland, Penn State, Georgia, Tennessee and Oregon all making the cut.

I haven't been able to confirm it, but Rutgers may have offered Florida back Damian Mallary.
