8/12 Recruiting Update

This, Clemson-biased site has their perspective on Antwan Lowery.

DL Antwan Lowery (6-4 315) of Miami, FL has an offer from Clemson and has the Tigers in his top 5. "Clemson, Rutgers, Miami, Florida State, and South Florida are my favorites right now." Lowery visited Rutgers and FSU this summer and liked both schools. He was very impressed with Rutgers. "I liked the atmosphere up there. They really love their football. My brother (Antonio) plays linebacker there too." Atwan says he is very quick and has tremendous speed for a man his size. "I'm especially quick from sideline to sideline," he says, "And I love getting to the quarterback." He runs a 5.21 40. Last year, he had 75 tackles including 15 for loss. His offers include Clemson, Miami, Florida, Southern Cal, Michigan, Ohio State, South Florida, and Rutgers. He plans to visit Clemson this fall for at least one home game.

They also have an article on Florida LB Conor O'Neill.

LB Conor Oneill (6-1 195) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL has received an offer from Clemson and says they are in his top three. Auburn and Wisconsin are his other two favorites and both have offered. His other offers are from Rutgers, Purdue, Miami (OH), and Syracuse.

Yahoo Sports profiled 2010 prospects Chris Burrell, Kyle Baublitz, and James Kittredge.

Unsurprisingly, E.J. Banks has dropped Rutgers.

"I have narrowed it down to two schools. They are Ohio State and Notre Dame. I plan to commit before the season, sometime by the end of the month. Our first game is on August 29th. It probably could be sooner than later."

Tommy Savage is working on his teammate, 2010 RB Corey Brown.

Brown is rated as one of the top running backs in the class of 2010. Both players attended Rutgers' practice on Friday.

"He loves it here. He likes it a lot," Savage said when asked Brown's thoughts on Rutgers.

Pittsburgh lineman Tyrone Ezell chose Pitt.

Ezell, a 6-foot-5, 245-pound end, picked the Panthers over scholarship offers from Ohio State, Colorado, Rutgers and Penn State, among others.

Tight end Arthur Fontaine will probably commit to Georgia soon.

Arthur Fontaine of Dartmouth, Mass., who is one of the nation’s top tight ends, said he nearly committed to Georgia during his three-day visit to Athens.

"Yeah, I thought about it for a brief moment, but I decided I needed more time to process everything," said Fontaine, who flew home on Friday night.

Corico Hawkins, who held a Rutgers offer but had long since eliminated RU, chose Clemson on Friday.

Another Southern prospect that the staff is still recruiting is Tampa-area RB Dontae Aycock.

Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Louisville, Mississippi State, Northwestern, Rutgers, South Florida and Vanderbilt have each offered and are recuiting Aycock as a running back.

It doesn't look like Rutgers is in the mix for Florida CB Brandon McGee.

Florida State, Tennessee, Mississippi -- and the hometown University of Miami (who were once considered out) -- are the four schools left in the running for McGee's services.
