According to "a source close to him" Yuri Wright gave his commitment to Colorado. While that doesn't sound promising for RU, it's far from a signed letter of intent. For some reason this feels like it's a report that is just about to be refuted. Let's hope so too for Yuri's and RU's sake. To me, Schiano seems like he's much better suited to turn this guy into a squeaky clean dominant CB, than Colorado. I'll keep my fingers crossed that this changes in Rutgers' favor by next week.
Another local New Jersey prospect is coming on board. Somerset wide receiver Carlton Agudosi committed to Rutgers today. He is the teammate of another '12 FBS prospect in defensive back Kye Morgan. The lanky Agudosi adds to RU's already-impressive haul of receivers this year and over the past few classes. They just keep coming out of NJ for some reason. Rutgers already has commits from two of the big in-state three for 2012. Now they'll want to go for the clean sweep with Leonte Carroo. Any other athlete types left on the board will probably have to end up at another position like defensive back.
Bloomsburg, PA quarterback Blake Rankin verbally committed to Rutgers yesterday at the team's spring game according to the recruiting sites. Rankin, listed at 6'4 and 195 lbs, completed 49% of his passes last fall for over 1,600 yards and 17 TDs. What's really notable for a QB of his size is that he also ran for 977 yards and 16 TDs. It looks like the Northeast is once again thin on quarterbacks this year after you get past Devin Fuller and Chad Kelly. Rutgers studied the other guys out there, decided they liked Rankin the best, and started aggressively recruiting him while other programs were still in evaluation mode. RU is probably done with QBs for this cycle unless Fuller has interest.
Philadelphia-area tailback Desmon Peoples got an early jump on Saturday's spring game and committed to Rutgers today, joining Linden receiver Ruhann Peele in RU's 2012 recruiting class. Peoples previously played at St. Joseph's Prep in Philadelphia, before transferring to Archbishop Wood after St. Joe's hired former Paramus Catholic coach Gabe Infante. Peoples is only listed at 5'7, 170 lbs, but that didn't stop him from lighting up St. Peter's Prep two years ago at Rutgers Stadium. Now Rutgers will enter the fall with one starting back from that game in Savon Huggins, with the other poised to follow Huggins to Piscataway in 2012.
Yesteday Linden receiver Ruhann Peele became the first '12 prospect to offer a non-binding commitment to Rutgers. 2012 is looking like another banner in-state crop, and Peele is one of several extremely skilled receivers available. He is a blue chip talent, and probably was on the cusp of emerging as an elite prospect.
The link above is to a video from NBC's affiliate in Atlantic City. Not sure how long it will stay up. If qualified, Johnson will be a tremendous asset to the roster. He was the fastest senior prospect in New Jersey last year, and a top priority for the coaching staff.
