Scout.com is reporting in a premium story (the linked header is free) that Michigan defensive end Anthony La Lota is transferring to Rutgers. A product of The Hun School, Rivals.com ranked La Lota a four-star prospect and the #2 prospect in the state of New Jersey in a loaded 2009 class.
However, there's definitely reason for pessimism about this transfer. Transfer players usually seem to wash out at Rutgers or other programs. La Lota had ridiculous potential in high school, but was very raw and had little production, basically turning into a top prospect because Terry Bowden found his film and told everybody.
More importantly, he ought to be playing offensive line. Even Michigan fans, who were in denial on that point for a while, are now largely in agreement. La Lota has wanted to play DE in the past, and not only was that a bad fit, it's impossible to imagine someone with that size frame playing DE in a Greg Schiano defense. It would be shocking if LaLota didn't move to offensive tackle or guard here.
