It may be that Rutgers is waiting to fire Rice until after the Murdock wrongful termination suit is settled. If they fire him now, it could be construed as an admission of liability, a legal source told SNY.tv.

"Rutgers has to be very careful because to the extent it can be demonstrated they were on notice of what he was doing, that’s going to come back against the university," the source said.

Yesterday was the Big East conference call. Mike Rice participated and updated everyone on Eli Carter. So far, Carter's fibula is healing as expected and surgery doesn't appear necessary. Carter will be checked weekly to make sure he's still progressing.

It's been several seasons now since the Rutgers women's basketball team was consistently competing at an elite level. Indeed, 2012-2013 has brought new indignities to the squad, such as losing to Big East doormat Seton Hall. Given the downward trend and her hefty salary, C. Vivian Stringer is starting to face a lot of criticism locally. If anything, she probably just poured gasoline on the fire with her combative response to critics the other day. Getting defensive absolutely was not the right move here.

The Scarlet Knights aren't the worst team in the Big East, but they are the league's worst defensive team. They don't produce turnovers, they give up too many offensive rebounds and they're letting opponents shoot nearly 47 percent from inside the arc. All of those things will be problems in Big East play.

— Gary Parrish picks Rutgers to finish 13th in the Big East and makes a very valid point about their defense. It must improve. However, Rutgers is still good enough to win 7 conference games. And if the defense comes up to Mike Rice standards, they could be even better. Then there's this poll which has Rutgers at 28th in the nation, and pegged for 10 Big East wins.

This is one of those eye popping articles that shows up from time to time. It appears to be written by someone who hasn't watched the team play and improve as the season has gone on. Mike Rice's return should, hopefully, energize this team even more. Of course, if there's a Rice slip up, then-yes, I suppose this could come true-but I doubt it. Someone needs to show this to the players. An "Us Against Them" mentality can help.
