Rutgers soph PG Jerome Seagears (@seagears_made) will be departing the program and have 2 years of eligibility remaining.— Jacey Zembal (@JaceyZembal) April 2, 2013
The Seagears transfer is a surprise and a major blow... and it could be just the start. Brendan Prunty wrote that little used wing Vincent Garrett will transfer as well.
It may be that Rutgers is waiting to fire Rice until after the Murdock wrongful termination suit is settled. If they fire him now, it could be construed as an admission of liability, a legal source told SNY.tv.
"Rutgers has to be very careful because to the extent it can be demonstrated they were on notice of what he was doing, that’s going to come back against the university," the source said.
A source tells me that Malick Kone is transferring out of Rutgers & Ibby Djimde is transferring out of Illinois.— Alex Kline (@TheRecruitScoop) March 29, 2013
As first reported by Alex Kline, Malk Kone is transferring from Rutgers. The wing position has been filled by Mike Poole and now incoming JUCOs Craig Brown and Chris Griffin. There wasn't much room left for Kone after that. Now Rutgers has another scholarship open and is still recruiting Lennard Freeman and Jon Severe. Rivals reporter Matt Hladik also said on the Scarlet Nation message board there may be another transfer, but it's not expected to be a major player.
I loved the relationships that the players have with one another. The coaches all have great relationships with the players too. Everyone up here from coaches to players is passionate and loves the game of basketball. I love that.
"And a Rutgers degree goes a long way. Great academics. I just feel comfortable there."
