Rutgers Recruiting Update

Rutgers played host to many top recruits during their Spring Game on April 24th

Rashan Gary, Paramus Catholic (NJ), DT

ESPN recently released their updated C/O 2016 rankings and Gary was at the top. The #1 recruit in the country can essentially pick and choose wherever he wishes to take his talents. Despite the national attention, Gary's recruitment has been pretty quiet lately. He was at the Rutgers spring game on Friday and is posed for a return for The Opening Finals in Oregon after a strong performance Sunday. Rutgers is still very much in the mix for him and will continue to push until NSD.

Kareem Walker, De Paul Catholic (NJ), HB

Although he is a verbal commit to Ohio State, his verbal seems to be less solid as the weeks go by. Walker made an appearance at Friday Knight Lights and seemed to be having a good time. There seems to still be an outside chance at Walker, but someone from the C/O 16 will have to start a chain of commitments to RU first.

Dwayne Haskins, Jr., Bullis School (MD), QB

ESPN's #2 pocket passer and top uncommitted QB in the nation is currently the number one priority for Rutgers. After Jarrett Guarantano announced his verbal to Tennessee, all of the focus has gone to Haskins. An NJ native, Haskins was coached by Rutgers legend Mohamed Sanu and met his current best friend at current 3* RU commit, Mo Jabbie, Sanu's nephew. These three have a strong bond that gives Rutgers a unique edge over schools like Maryland and Florida, who are diligently recruiting Haskins as well. Maryland seems to be RU's top competition for the signal caller from Maryland who looks to decide by early June but could commit sometime in the near future.

Ahmir Mitchell, Cedar Creek (NJ), WR/ATH

Mitchell is regarded as the best WRs in the state and one of the top ATHs in the nation. Rutgers has made a very good impression on Mitchell and seem poised to be at the top of his list. As of March 6th, Rutgers was his top school although he has visited more schools since. Mitchell was supposed to attend the Spring Game but his ride fell through and was unable to attend. He has no timetable thus far as to when he will commit and still has many visits to go on but look at Mitchell as a big recruit who could help get the 2016 class rolling.

Quayshon Alexander, De Paul Catholic (NJ), DE

Alexander, the brother of current RU safety Kiy Hester, has had a pretty quiet recruitment so far but has drawn a fair amount of interest from many schools. Rutgers has the best relationship with Alexander, as they do with many NJ recruits, but the fact that his brother is there can really help with his recruitment. Alexander recently visited Pitt and had a great time. The former Big East rivals seem to be RU's biggest competition for the pass rusher out of De Paul.

Brad Hawkins, Camden (NJ), WR/S

The two-way talent out of Camden has been diligently recruited by RU for a while along with his good friend and teammate Ron Johnson. Hawkins has been described as "A Man Among Boys" on the field and posesses great ball skills and playmaking ability. Rutgers has been recruiting him for a while and seem to have put themselves in a good position for the services of the Camden standout.

Ron Johnson, Camden (NJ), DE

Johnson, a teammate and friend of Hawkins, has found himself on the Rutgers campus numerous times with the Camden contingent. He is another big-time recruit receiving strong interest from numerous B1G teams including TTFP. If Rutgers can strengthen their relationship with the Camden players and coaches, their chances of landing Johnson, Hawkins, and numerous other big talents will be very high.

As recruiting season kicks into high gear, stay tuned for more updates on offers, commitments, and anything else RU Recruiting.
