While you are out there grilling, drankin', down-the-shoring, or honey-do'ing, Rutgers has been busy on the recruiting trail recently. Here are a few bite-sized items of interest not necessarily worth full posts on their own. Happy Memorial Day everyone.
RU Offered a QB
Last week, OTB explored a number of QBs who might receive an offer from Rutgers (in addition to commit Mike Dare and Montclair standout Elijah Robinson), and speculated that Rutgers would be very careful extending QB offers. Apparently, one QB rose to the top: Rutgers offered Malverm PA's Alex Hornibrook, a 6'4" 195lb. pro style left-handed passer with a big arm. Hornibrook was scheduled to visit Rutgers on Friday, but rescheduled for Tuesday because his father had a conflict Friday. His junior highlights are here.
Cal Ibanez Signed
Experienced California JUCO Offensive Lineman Cal Ibanez signed his scholarship offer with Rutgers, so he is officially a Scarlet Knight. Ibanez committed on May 11, and Knight fans still recovering from last year should always be pleased when a recruit who pledges to Rutgers actually signs.
Irvin Charles is Not Coming to RU
4* WR Irvin Charles of Paul VI High School (Haddonfield, NJ) released his top 7 on Twitter, and Rutgers did not make the list. This week, OTB took a look at Rutgers prospects among the higher profile recruits in NJ. Unfortunately, it looks like we can add Charles to the list of players who think the grass is greener somewhere else.
I just wanna thank all the coaches for givin me a chance to attend their school, I'm content with my list how it is pic.twitter.com/zKRbgJPedt— Irvin Charles (@Swirvington_) May 23, 2014
Rutgers is Offering Players in New Regions
Rutgers is taking advantage of its new B1G affiliation, as well as two coaches with Midwestern ties (Browning and McDaniels) to offer a number of players in Ohio and other Midwestern states.
Most recently, Rutgers offered 3* Massilon, Ohio WR Reggie Rogers. Using the Rivals list, Rogers is the 7th Knight offer out to an Ohio prospect. Rutgers also has offers out to 1 South Dakota player, 3 Minnesota players and 4 Illinois players.
Also, Rutgers recently offered three underclassmen from Ottawa, Canada: 6'1", 180-pound sophomore cornerback Patrice Rene, 6'4" 235-pound freshman defensive end Luiji Vilain and 5-10, 175-pound freshman cornerback Jonathan Sutherland. LB/Special Teams Coach Bob Fraser has some connections in America's attic, and he is working them here. Former Knight Standout Jamaal Westerman also was also a graduate of a high school in Ontario.

Have at it in the comments. OTB will be checking in all weekend. Happy Memorial Day, and thank you to our troops, who allow us the freedom to worry about the whims and caprices of sixteen year old football players, if we so choose.
