Ryan Johnson 6'5 New Hope Christian (NC) Committed to Rutgers. Congrats!
— Jamie Shaw (@JamieShaw5) April 28, 2014
Ryan Johnson, a wing out of North Carolina, committed to Rutgers today. The 6'5" guard also had interest from UNC-Willmington, Minnesota, and VCU. Phenom Hoops calls him one of the area's best kept secrets, and says his body type compares to former UConn guard Jeremy Lamb. Johnson's video highlights show him to be a pure shooter and Phenom Hoops also lauds his Basketball IQ.
Johnson is not a highly ranked player and wasn't chased by many teams, so one has to trust Eddie Jordan's eye on this one. It's likely he'll be a spot player his first year or two On the Banks, but if he can light it up from outside and use his length to disrupt the other team, he can make a difference.
Rutgers still has two more open scholarships for 2014, and is hot in pursuit of JMU transfer guard Charles Cooke.
In other recruiting news, priority target and big man Moustapha Diagne is expected to choose a school relatively soon. Adam Zagoria says that Diagne's coach hears from Eddie Jordan all the time, though I'm unsure who is the favorite..
