First of all let me set you all straight on what I mean because I don't want anyone to think I'm bashing the players we have recruited. Not at all. I am happy for those student athletes who choses Rutgers or not and wished them all the best of luck. You the student athlete are the ones who put in all the hard work for your dreams and have the right to choose where you want to go no matter what other people might say. As for the high school coaches, friends, neighbors, COLLEGE coaches and FAMILY you all need to let them choose the school of their own choice. If you are a decent good person you would respect and support their decision. Yes, I know I'm kinda getting sidetracked but that's just something I needed to get off my chest. Back to my original point I wanted to make about recruiting. What Rutgers in general needs to do is to do is expand further away from NEW JERSEY. They are great players around NEW JERSEY but they are move away from the state as well. The three points I wanted to get into with this post. 1) Exposure 2) Opponents and 3) Coaching.
EXPOSURE..With the move to the B1G conference Rutgers football program gets exposed to more places where not many recruits know to much about Rutgers. Here's my question about that. Why does it take moving into a new conference for this team to start recruiting in new states? Is it because you'll have to alter your philosophy just to be able to play against better opponents? To get Rutgers better recruits is to play teams in places you want to target. Thus leading to getting Rutgers football program more exposure to more recruits. Having primetime games is always a plus but it's not like we have our own network. It's time to put more emphasis in getting Rutgers name out there and i have some small solutions for this. It all starts with the football site which needs an overhaul badly. 1) Games needs to be broadcasted on the site with students commentating the game. 2) Interviews with athletes coaches, and recruits posted daily. 3) Updates weekly with stats and highlights of former Rutgers' players in the NFL. 4) Podcasts and links 5) Finally it needs to be able to work on multiple formats (desktops, tablets and all smartphones).
OPPONENTS..Putting more emphasis in scheduling and having our guys move further west will boost the RU name across the country. Now with the playoff system being installed and the B1G is making an emphasis of this as well. With that being said any big name school that doesn't want to face Rutgers then we should face the next school in that state. Like I mentioned before this gives Rutgers more exposure to recruits and transfers who'd never seen a Rutgers game. There are some many players out there in football heavy states that can be convinced to give Rutgers that we can recruit. I know its hard to find good players but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't branch out more. But before we do that we need a better hold in our tri-state area. Because our last recruiting class showed that Rutgers lost its appeal.
