Still no media respect

I find it absolutely amazing that after Saturday's thrilling, come from behind victory over Arkansas, there was very little mention of the game on talk radio.

On Monday morning, I sent a tweet (@echonko) to the Boomer and Carton Show on WFAN, asking if they were going to discuss the game, given the big win. The show tweeted back "after the Jets, Giants, and Mo retiring? No."

I tweeted the show back (and included Boomer on the tweet), that they were missing a huge opportunity between RU and B1G fans, and referenced Maryland (Boomer's alma mater)'s big with over WVU. The nest reply was that there aren't enough RU / B1G fans to discuss, and they would lose listeners. Not only do I disagree with that statement, I find it hard to believe that a four hour show can spend the entire time on three topics.

At this point, a bunch of RU fans the saw this exchange jumped in on the action and started tweeting the show too.

Long story short, Rutgers fans need to start a grass roots effort to get some respect in the local media. I fully understand this is a "pro sports" area. But Rutgers and the B1G need to make some in roads and generate more interest. I happen to believe that if sports talk shows talked about the exciting come from behind win against an SEC team, it would generate more fans - as opposed to losing listeners. Especially with Yankee, Met and Giant fans having so much disappointment, watching a winning team in a "new" sport may be just the thing these "sports fans" need.

So I would encourage all of our Rutgers fans to make an effort and get Rutgers on the sports talk map. Call in, email, and tweet away. Let's generate some excitement! Our guys are giving their all on the field. Let's do our part!
