Tom Savage to Pittsburgh official
Good luck to Tom. I really do think he would have been the guy to lead Rutgers into the promised land. He just ran into the worst offensive coordinator in program history. No one could have survived that kind of mess. Was Tom rash in leaving? Of course. The Frank Cignetti offense was practically custom built for him. If he stays at Rutgers, RU wins the Big East last year, and he's on the fast track to the NFL now instead of having to sit out another year walking on at an in-state university. He made a rash, ill-thought out decision, and that's what people in their early 20s are prone to do. Trying to come back here a few months ago before the NCAA denied his waiver basically acknowledged as much. It's too bad, but there's nothing you can do about it but move on. Rutgers finally is starting to build up some QB depth, and the bad news for Pitt is that Tino Sunseri remains their best starting option by a country mile. He'll be rusty, but will have an opportunity to play there, and it won't ever be against Rutgers, so I don't really see the harm in wishing him all the luck in the world.
