Sources say Rutgers has been telling recruits it plans on being in the Big Ten sooner than later.

There's been nothing on that from the Rutgers side though. It's not like last fall, when Temple and Villanova were promising recruits that they would join the Big East. Or the past decade, when Memphis, UCF, FIU, ECU, etc... were promising recruits that the Big East was right around the corner. This is probably just a Philadelphia columnist grasping at straws.

Tipping Point

Right now Kyle Flood has a huge opportunity for himself and for Rutgers sitting on his shoulders – The major college sports world is in transition & if Flood can smoothly shift the team into a new era – building on the past success, implementing improvements in quality and consistency – then there may be some invitations (Big10 / ?) to consider …but if there is a catastrophic season or two of transition, the door of opportunity will swing shut. – Also worth noting – if Mike Rice can get the basketball team to operate up to their potential on a game-in game-out basis , the marketability of RU goes up even more.

“Sources say Rutgers has been telling recruits it plans on being in the Big Ten sooner than later. My heart be still.

It would be nice if the author put a little substance behind this claim. If he can’t name names at least i.d. a bit more narrowly who (recruit or parent) by positon, class or something!
