Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

So says Alex Marvez from Fox Sports. Angelichio and Fraser are going too, but those were already confirmed.

Replacing Jeff Hafley as a recruiter will obviously be difficult, but far from impossible. He was a good North Jersey recruiter, but a tad overrated, in that a lot of his success came after Joe Susan left Rutgers, and Schiano never bothered to add another NJ recruiter to the staff.

Cignetti was a great offensive coordinator for Rutgers, and Greg Schiano owes him a lot of credit for basically saving his career after the Kirk Ciarrocca hire almost destroyed it.

Cignetti was rumored to join Tampa, but now will go his own way with St. Louis. What's interesting is that Schiano is reportedly looking at Bill Lazor from UVA now as QB coach. Lazor, of course, worked with Mike Teel in Seattle, and would have been a great fit as Rutgers OC last year had Cignetti not been available. He was such an obvious fit on paper that it's no surprise that Schiano is now interested.

Also, there was a report that GS offered the Tampa DC job to Dan Quinn from Florida, who turned it down. Quinn actually worked with Kyle Flood at Hofstra, but is unlikely to come to Rutgers if he is turning down the NFL.

Inside scoop?

Just curious – Were there internal factions in the coaching staff? The more tenured guys / the Pittsburgh guys? Regardless, the exodus is understandable – as it seems that everyone is stepping up to more lucrative opportunities – or nice resume expanding positions.
Let’s hope that Flood is a shrewd judge of character and capabilities, has an extensive network of colleagues and is able to persuade promising and talented coaches to become a part of the Rutgers climb to the top.

hard to say that there were based on this

Schiano went after the top Xs and Os assistants obviously. Hafley is debateable, but the DBs did have a good year. I wouldn’t read anything into it beyond that.
