Around SBN: How The Kings Beat The Coyotes: Lather, Rinse, Repeat

This move is not official yet, as Tampa is still waiting to officially name its assistant hires. However, word out of Boston is that BC special teams coach Dave Brock will be the new offensive coordinator at Rutgers. Brock served as the interim OC last year after Kevin Rogers down.

Brock, originally a native of South Jersey, is certainly a respectable position coach hire given his resume (Temple, K-State, etc...) The BC offense did not look great last year though, and Brock (who was an interim OC, mind you) was relieved of his duties following the season. He was rumored to be looking to bolt as a result to begin with, and I thought there was a decent chance he would be re-united with Kyle Flood given that both worked at Hofstra in the mid-90s, and Flood has supposedly been looking at other former colleagues such as Rob Spence.

Plus, there's also the matter of the BC staff probably being a year away from a full house-cleaning, so it makes a lot of sense for Brock to get out while he still can.

Well, there's one domino down. There are worse things in the world than reuniting the 1997 Hofstra staff (look it up, it wasn't a halfway bad staff.) Stylistically, Brock has been involved with a lot of different looks in his career. I would bet on a run heavy, play-action attack predominating in 2012 though.

While Brock is a native of South Jersey, he recruited the midwest for BC. That isn't much of a concern, as most coordinators do far less recruiting than position coaches.

Update: Tom Luicci says Dave Cohen will probably be LB coach.

Plus there is also the matter of the new BE, its porojected lose of AQ status and the general implosion of the league. HERE WE COME MAC!!

Seriously, RU is getting a guy who had horrible results as OC at BC, which has had a horribel offense for several years now. What is RU doing here? Don’t sugar-coat it: This is not an impressive hire for RU.

never said it was

but Spaziani will definitely be fired next year. Don’t see how BC fans can take issue with that. They want him gone.

Don't like it.

From the BC site: “As offensive coordinator at Kansas State, Brock spearheaded a Wildcat offense…”

You’ve got to be kidding me. Brock was 109th in total offense in 2010. He’s 112th in 2011. Scoring offense was similar. I mega dislike this if it is true.

Not sure

FYI – Brock was the interim OC starting in Sept. 2011, he was the TE coach during his first 2 1/2 yrs at BC.

Brock is a decent recruiter, but as OTB points out, coordinators recruit less than the position coaches.

Brock was TE coach in 2010 and the first two games of 2011, FWIW

When the BC site states “Wildcat” offense, is it referring to the Kansas State Wildcats, or the literal Wildcat offense with a RB or WR lined up at QB?

Thank God

That was odd phrasing. I don’t want to ever see a wildcat anything at Rutgers ever again. Don’t even bring the animal to the campus…

Huh?

Before jumping off the ledge, could we wait until we get the whole story?

As to the BE AQ status still in jeopardy…that’s just silly. It’s likelythere won’t even be a BCS in four years.

RU not in a good spot. Too bad. RU deserves better than new BE
