During Saturday afternoon's men's basketball game at FSU, Spetman told the Orlando Sentinel that FSU has already begun making calls to various schools to fill the vacancy. Among them: Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Rutgers, Syracuse and Pittsburgh.
As of yet, none of the schools has agreed to play the Seminoles.
That's from the Orlando Sentinel. Thanks to RCTrooper on Rivals for the heads up.
Games take time to schedule, and FSU would want a home game to replace West Virginia, so it's no surprise that Tim Pernetti did not sign a contract at a moment's notice. It wouldn't be a shock if FSU joined Arkansas and Kansas State in the pile of road possibilities if a game with Oklahoma fell through. Heck, Rutgers could be looking to fill two games if WVU gets out of the Big East early.
Fortunately, Rutgers is supposed to travel to Morgantown this year, so they would not be losing a home game if WVU gets out early. However, in addition to any harm to the Big East, WVU getting in the Big XII this year may hurt the chances to schedule a game with Oklahoma at MetLife. Therefore, Rutgers fans have to (gulp) root for the Big East in this conflict on multiple levels.
As is pointed out on Rivals, some of those programs FSU mentioned may not have openings that work with FSU's schedule even if they are willing to play road games. E.g., USC/Syracuse at MetLife. For now, this remains worth watching.
