Jim Panagos is the last domino

1

Rutgers rounded out its coaching staff (with the exception of graduate assistants) yesterday with the hiring of UCF coach Jim Panagos. All of the reviews out of UCF on Panagos are good, and he has experience recruiting the NY metro area and Florida. It's a pretty good choice in a vacuum - I thought Panagos and Dave Sollazzo (UMass, former Maryland) could be options, but figured that Rutgers would try to find a coach with direct ties to Eastern PA to round out the staff. A couple parting thoughts: 1. As far as recruiting goes, it's interesting how many Long Islanders (Spence, Cohen, and now Panagos) are on the staff. Presumably, two of them will be assigned to cover other geographic regions. 2. Panagos is a good hire on the DL. Now the question becomes how Phil Galiano will fare as defensive backs coach. 3. With the makeup of the staff, only Darnell Dinkins really came out of left field. Flood has worked with Brock, Spence, and Cohen before. Delaware is always an obvious target for new Rutgers staffers, especially considering Flood's ties to the school. Sirmans worked with Brock at BC. Panagos has ties to the region, but comes from a different coaching tree (George O'Leary has ties to Fridge, Edsall, Marrone, Bobby Ross, Dick MacPherson, etc...)
