With all this Providence hysteria about dissolving the conference, I wanted to check the conference's by-laws and see for myself. It takes a 3/4 member vote to add or kick members out of the conference, but indeed only 2/3 vote to dissolve the conference. So in theory, if all seven basketball schools were interesting in committing mass athletic suicide (in addition to not receiving exit fees from the departing schools), then they well could so so before the C-USA schools start arriving next year. The departing teams no longer have a vote. That being said, another interesting section (11.02) says that the exit fee drops to $5 million dollars if the Big East loses its BCS bid. Which happened a few weeks ago. If that's the case, shouldn't the 27-month cost for departure only be $5 million now instead of $10?
