Rutgers/Georgetown gamethread

Rutgers Scarlet Knights at Georgetown Hoyas, Jan 21, 2012 12:00 PM EST

The wild roller coaster of a season for Rutgers continues today in Washington. Good luck predicting this one, although GT certainly seems to be back up this year.

refs favoring Rutgers’ opponent, what else is new

Compared to 1-2 FT for Rutgers. And yet Rutgers has the 5 point lead. Hopefully that bodes well for the 2nd half.

refs need to get off their knees.

Jesus H. Christ, I thought we were supposed to start getting the occasional call after the Big East Tournament shenanigans.

Rutgers

Doing a good job moving the ball around, they are making the extra pass to find the open man a lot.

If only some of these 3’s would go down =/

Well, when you are playing 5 v. 8….

Georgetown 27 FTA – Rutgers 3

by Daniel Joseph on Jan 21, 2012 1:43 PM EST reply actions

its crazy

these georgetown defenders are the best i ever seen i guess. everytime georgetown touches the ball under the hoop Rutgers fouls them with a reach. everytime RU gets it under the hoop georgetown successfully strips and blocks without fouling.. its really amazing.

by MikePrz on Jan 21, 2012 1:44 PM EST reply actions

It’s not even that, they are literally shoving Eli every time he shoots. Every bucket we make should be an and 1.

by Daniel Joseph on Jan 21, 2012 1:45 PM EST up reply actions

Its not?

Austin Johnson got his own rebound under the hoop and got thrown out of bounds and no call. GU is free to do whatever they want under their own hoop.

by MikePrz on Jan 21, 2012 1:50 PM EST up reply actions

LOL

seeing JT3 crying to the ref there actually made me laugh out loud.

Cant blame the refs anymore

Rutgers was up 5 with under 2 to play.. Miller refuses to pass and turns it over, Carters push off was a foul, why the hell is he getting frustrated there… young team blew the chance to get a big time win.

by MikePrz on Jan 21, 2012 2:12 PM EST reply actions

dude, come on. G’town was playing rough all game and not getting called for fouls.

by Daniel Joseph on Jan 21, 2012 2:17 PM EST up reply actions

It was a stupid time to call a push off and that last foul down low was a joke. The refs were looking to give it to Georgetown.

by Daniel Joseph on Jan 21, 2012 2:18 PM EST up reply actions

The push off was a push off. Not sure about the rest, but it was.

100% a push off

Immaturity by Carter and Miller holding on to the ball way too long lost Rutgers this game in the end. The refs killed them all game but Rutgers had control and gave it up.

by MikePrz on Jan 21, 2012 2:21 PM EST up reply actions

Carter

I just dont understand what he was thinking.. Its a tight game, arguably the most important game to date and he lets tight defense frustrate him like that.. Stupid

by MikePrz on Jan 21, 2012 2:22 PM EST up reply actions

You need to rewatch the whole game.

We shouldn’t get called for a push off when we are getting killed under the hoop.

by Daniel Joseph on Jan 21, 2012 2:23 PM EST up reply actions

I understand

The refs killed them all game, but you cant stiff-arm a guy off balance in center court and not expect a foul called. Especially with the way they were calling the entire game. Why would you expect to get away with a foul there?

Rutgers still should of won this game, regardless of the shit refs.

by MikePrz on Jan 21, 2012 2:28 PM EST up reply actions

I expect to get away with it because you don’t make a call like that in the last minute. I expect to get away with it because Georgetown got away with it.

by Daniel Joseph on Jan 21, 2012 2:31 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t believe in make-up calls

Alright, then, I’ll break down those last two possesions before the last shot.

1) Poole tries to grab the rebound, gets shoved. Austin Johnson can’t save it from going out of bounds.

2) That push-off was caused by the Georgetown defender grabbing onto him and not letting him go.

I get it, you don’t like blaming the refs or the other team and are insanely focused on keeping the onus on our guys. That’s cool, but this was a hatchet job by the refs.

by Daniel Joseph on Jan 21, 2012 4:01 PM EST up reply actions

I didn’t say the game wasn’t horribly officiated, I said it was a push off. That’s it.

Are you sure thats how it went?

I remember being up 5 with under around 2 mins remaining. Miller carelessly turns it over while trying to take a turn around jumper instead of passing out like he should have. Then Carter took his foul which was being called on Rutgers all night, he gives Georgetown 2 free throws and even worse leaves 20-25 seconds on the clock.

The refs killed RU all game theres no denying it, but they still should have won. The only gripe I have with the refs in the last 2 minutes was the foul away from the ball at the end, but RU should not have been in that position if they played smart throughout the final 2 minutes.

by MikePrz on Jan 21, 2012 4:25 PM EST up reply actions

What? All I’m saying is it was a push off! I haven’t said a word about anything else that happened in the game!
