Rutgers football recruiting update for the week of 3/30

This post was delayed one day to better space out content. Otherwise there should be no difference as it goes through Tuesday afternoon as usual.

Committed Players

Quentin Gause is already fitting in at Rutgers by being completely and utterly non-threatened by Syracuse and Doug Marrone.

Tenafly QB Paul Hamersma is walking on at Rutgers.

Uncommitted Players

NJ S Elijah Shumate's latest top five:

He has South Carolina, Penn State, Connecticut, North Carolina, and Rutgers as his top five in no order.

NJ ATH Brandon Napoleon recently visited UNC.

NJ CB Yuri Wright will visit Colorado in a few weeks.

24/7 Sports has a few assorted updates on Napoleon, Wayne Morgan, Quanzell Lambert, and others.

NJ RB Nigel Jones is thinking about visiting Big Ten country.

Star-divide

Cincy offered PA RB Greg Garmon. PA OL Chris Muller likes RU and PSU.

"Up here, I want to visit Virginia, Penn State, Boston College, and Rutgers." Muller attended a junior day at Rutgers and is visiting Penn State this weekend. "I had a good time at Rutgers," he said. "I got to see a lot of the campus. I've been to Penn State once before for a game. It's nice."

D.C. CB Kenneth Crawley has an extensive offer list, as does VA LB Ken Ekanem. MD ATH Ron Darby claims no favorites.

FL ATH Falon Batua claims an offer. FL ATH Albert Jean-Louis favors Miami.

Coach Schiano and staff make a big emphasis on speed and athleticism when evaluating talent, which is clear from following recruiting. They're always a little more lukewarm than most programs on guys with games based more on strength, which probably explains most of their noteworthy non-offers or slow-plays in state the past few years.

Penn State is being far more aggressive when it comes to recruiting this year, which is notable on a number of fronts. Their assistants seemed to take a passive approach last spring, leading to a ton of speculation about possible staff changes. It's also a function of the new NCAA rules preventing written offers from going out until the fall. The recruiting sites are reporting far more offers this year because they're all only verbal offers. Programs believe they have to offer borderline prospects to stay involved...which could lead to a lot of trouble and confusion in a few months. That is a big part of why this site's new recruiting board hasn't gone up yet.

MD TE/DE Brent Wilkerson committed to PSU. MD DE Allen Jackson committed to Duke.

Watchlist: This is a section of this site's weekly recruiting posts featuring links to players that Rutgers may or may not be showing interest in, but has not yet offered.

Carlton Agudosi, Chris BivinsJaylen Coleman, Brock Dean, Jordan Imeokparia, Abner Logan, Ryan Morris, Mikal Myers, Tyrone Neal, Jalen Randolph, and Dominic Twitty.

Yuri and Elijah would give Rutgers one of the best safety duos in the country

also, they are best friends (I go to HS with them) so I think they will try and go to the same college.

My Steelers blog: thenewsteelcurtain.blogspot.com/

Big Ben: 2 super bowl victories
Joe Flacco: 0 super bowl appearances
Mark Sanchez: 0 super bowl appearances

So for those of you who say Flacco and Sanchez are better postseason QB's than Big Ben because they have more road wins, go home and think about how dumb that reasoning is.
