West Virginia Beats Rutgers 65-54

Note: this post is from Dave White. Last one for a while with this weird setup.

When you shoot one for thirteen from three point land, you're not going to win many games.

And that's exactly what happened today.  Despite a yeoman's effort from Mike Coburn (20 points), Rutgers couldn't score enough to beat the Moutaineers.

And when a Bob Huggins team decides to out-rebound you, you're in big trouble.

More after the jump...

Bob Huggins decided that after only leading 25-22 in the first half, the open collared suit didn't work for him.  So, at halftime, he switched into his trademark black sweatsuit.  Rutgers, however, came out of the gate strong and took a brief lead.

Dane Miller had one of his better games too, with 11 points and 6 rebounds.  Rutgers did a good job of getting the ball inside once they realized the threes weren't going down.  They fed Austin Johnson and Gilvydas Biruta, though neither had a strong game.  Biruta was getting outmuscled most of the game by Deniz Kilicli.

There were two key stretches in the second half.

At one point, only down three, Rutgers got three defensive stops.  However, they were unable to pull down the rebound, and West Virginia finally found Casey Mitchell open for three.  He hit it.

Then, as RU was mounting a comeback, they were able to find both James Beatty and Jonathan Mitchell open for a 3 point shot.  Coburn was also open for a 3 as well.  All three seniors were unable to knock them down, and WVU iced the game.

Unfortunately, despite Mike Coburn's floater, the other two seniors were unable to find their game.  Neither broke double digits.

According to Adam Zagoria, Coburn and Mitchell played with heavy hearts.

And here's Rice's postgame press conference.
