As a 160-pound receiver (and sometimes cornerback), Cruz seemed to have a ceiling no matter how many yards and touchdowns he racked up. His size was an issue: recruiters deemed him too small. The closest he came to a Division I scholarship, Wimberly recalls, was when Rutgers considered giving him its last one in 2005. Instead, the school gave it to Devin McCourty, now a cornerback with the New England Patriots.

— Some Rutgers fans love to harp on the New Jersey kids that managed to slip through the cracks of Rutgers' recruiting efforts. This is the only mention of Rutgers in a long article about the Giants' Victor Cruz, but I thought it interesting enough to share.
