As a 160-pound receiver (and sometimes cornerback), Cruz seemed to have a ceiling no matter how many yards and touchdowns he racked up. His size was an issue: recruiters deemed him too small. The closest he came to a Division I scholarship, Wimberly recalls, was when Rutgers considered giving him its last one in 2005. Instead, the school gave it to Devin McCourty, now a cornerback with the New England Patriots.

Some Rutgers fans love to harp on the New Jersey kids that managed to slip through the cracks of Rutgers' recruiting efforts. This is the only mention of Rutgers in a long article about the Giants' Victor Cruz, but I thought it interesting enough to share.
