This actually wasn't a fake vote. The football schools shouldn't have to play this blackmail, but consider it insurance while working on a way out.

$10 million is still peanuts

Compared to the potential payday from a new conference

It is a fake

Not really $10m. It only kicks in if other teams join. wVU and Lville have escape hatch

It's obvious you don't like the Big East

Not saying I do either. I’m actually quite glad Pitt’s leaving college athletic’s worst run conference. My question is which conference do you want Rutgers in? The ACC because of geography or the Big Ten because of the bigger paycheck?

We will go to any conference that will take us.

the big 10 is probably the ultimate goal

fits both the sports program and the institution best. plus its not like miami florida is much closer than lincoln nebraska.

but yeah, the real answer is anyone who offers an invite first.

The $10M isn't ransom to the b-ball schools.

It’s a show of good faith to your new football buddies.

And yes, $10M won’t keep anyone from jumping to the Big 12, much less the ACC, SEC or Big 10.

it's not about good faith or goodwill, its about money

the new schools want a bigger consolation prize if and when the other schools leave. the new invites arent stupid. the know the big east will never be stable with the bball schools still involved. but the bcs bid is still worth an ass ton of money, so they’ll go be in a lame, moribund conference with a guaranteed bcs bid until 2015. and if the league collapses before then at least theyve got a nice parting gift to make it worth their while. its worth it to the older football schools since they are paying for a conference until they can figure out a viable exit strategy.

its a random to the bball school sin that it never would have been necessary in the first place if it wasn’t for them. that marinatto wanted to make the exit fee $20m or 150% of the last year’s revenue just shows what a joke the league is. marinatto and the bball schools don’t care if the big east loses it’s bcs bid or gets a terrible tv contract. it’s worth it to them to lock the football schools into the league and cost them money. even if you separate the exit fees, they’d rather keep them in the league for bball, the exposure and ensuring it stays a major conference.

basically the big east is a complete joke and the sooner it implodes the better.

It's ridiculous to blame the B-ball schools for the instability

Imagine that the b-ball schools all left tomorrow and formed the Catholic Basketball League For Crappy Stupidhead Schools Who Don’t Play Football. (I’m letting you pick our name)

Then imagine that the 12-team plan comes together. UConn, Rutgers, USF, UCF, West Virginia and Navy in the East, Cincinatti, Louisville, SMU, Houston, Air Force and Boise in the West.

Besides Air Force and Navy, which of the 10 New Big East members would turn down an offer to jump to one of the 5 solid AQ conferences?

thats a catchy conference name

i think it would be worth it to hear it announced on espn.

its the moves by the basketball schools over the last 30 years that have been mentioned ad nauseum here that have led to the instability and caused teams to leave in the first place.

its too late to save now, since ive you pointed out, schools will leave no matter what you cobble together. i mean the whole league go to this point because the basketball schools didnt want cuse and pitt and bc to leave for conferences that actually sponsored football. well, that ship has sailed. might as well dissolve now. you can keep the name big east, its all yours. you lose some decent bball programs in uconn, wvu and lville and whoever else has a good year, but now you can pursue your own destiny without the whiny football schools to placate all the time.

its a real win win for everyone.
