Besides also recruiting Orlando-area quarterback/Wake Forest oral commitment Kevin Sousa, UM called the high school coach of Tom Savage to express interest in the 2008 high school All-American quarterback who is transferring from Rutgers, according to his father. "Tom likes Miami. They have a great coaching staff," Savage Sr. said. But his son cannot speak with schools until Rutgers grants written permission. Rutgers has so far denied Savage permission to speak with UM, but that is being appealed. UF, FSU and Michigan were among others who called Savage’s coach.

That's from the Miami Herald. If those are the schools Savage is looking at, then his transfer clearly has nothing to do with a depth chart. The weird thing about Miami in particular is that Al Golden is basically a clone of Greg Schiano in every respect. If someone has an issue with one it's hard to imagine liking the other. As far as blocking transfers go, one poster on Rivals had a good point today about Miami blocking Robert Marve a few years ago. Joe Paterno blocked Robert Bolden from transferring (and he's apparently staying as a result, along with Kevin Newsome). Wonder if MSU will jump aboard this trend by blocking Joe Boisture's transfer. Update: looks like Tom Luicci has all of the details. This could be getting ugly with Savage's dad getting legal counsel. Update2: after seeing some Savage bashing on Twitter, that really isn't fair considering how the Bryan Fortay saga played out. Can't be hypocrites here. The whole situation is a shame, but Tom should be able to transfer to any program that doesn't play Rutgers over the next few years as long as they play within the rules.
