Rutgers basketball adds transfer forward Robert Lumpkins
Lumpkins, a 6'7 210 lb forward originally from Washington D.C., averaged 4 points and 3.8 rebounds in eight games for New Mexico State last year. In other words, he's not going to be the desperately needed big man savior for the upcoming season. It's another five fouls off the bench to give though, so there's no harm in giving out a spare scholarship for one year.
Much more interesting for the future of the basketball program is all the news about recruiting that seems to come out on a daily basis now. Rutgers is seemingly involved with everybody at the moment. Mike Rice and staff will still have to secure some letters of intent though. More importantly, Rice has to show that he can coach at the Big East level, which won't be easy working from what's expected to be a depleted roster. Still, it's a start.
