Around SBN: Which Players Will Join The 3,000-Hit Club?

It's always a challenge trying to discern the news coming out of Rutgers football training camps and practices. Information is controlled very tightly, so you're always left wondering about the significance of a certain piece of information. Various players are being held out of practice right now, but there's no sense speculating until word comes down about whether or not a particular injury is meaningful.

Today comes the definitive word that redshirt sophomore receiver Tim Wright will miss the 2010 season with a knee injury. Wright had been one of the breakout players during spring practice, and the competition to start opposite Mohamed Sanu was expected to be close race between Wright and true sophomore Mark Harrison.

Rutgers can still have two capable starters now, but there's no getting around that losing Wright will be a significant blow. He's a very talented athlete who everyone had high expectations for, and one can only hope that this injury won't linger on into 2011 and beyond. The team can survive this loss, but it hurts a fair deal.

As a direct consequence of the injury, one would assume that Mark Harrison is locked into a starting job now, and that Quron Pratt will be the slot receiver. With five returning receivers on the roster, this move should open up more opportunities for the incoming freshmen, or possibly position switches from elsewhere on the roster. Coach Schiano has already mentioned moving a few players around, so any resulting moves may have already been in the works anyway.

I really feel for the guy. He puts in the work, climbs the depth chart, is primed for a big year, and then the unpredictable nature of football intervenes. I certainly will be rooting for him to come back strong next year.
