Rutgers football recruiting update for the week of 12/28

Committed Players

The Philadelphia Inquirer named Myles Jackson as a first-team defense selection. Tyler Kroft also made the team as a punter. It's interesting how he and Daryl Stephenson are supposedly good at that, but RU is taking Anthony DiPaula to replace Dellaganna.

Lots of familiar names are on the Chesapeake Bowl rosters. I am offended that they would dare challenge NJ/NE's supremacy.

Uncommitted Players

Everything's quiet right now with the holiday dead period (meaning there is no recruiting contact), but there was a bit of news over the past week.

NJ RB Savon Huggins will visit Michigan State. He's also playing in ESPN's UA AA game next week (Shuler's in the NBC Army game on the 8th). Things are looking good for now, although you have to be scared about the Mike Farrell kiss of death with him and Nova. Can Farrell really give Hafley all the credit for Nova when Gary himself said Frank Cignetti was his draw at Pittsburgh?

NJ QB Gary Nova is visiting on the 21st. Here's a tamper-riffic interview with Nova from a Miami fan blog. Supposedly Nova has RU and UVA on top? Word is that Golden either wants him or an Iowa verbal named Jake Rudock.

One article on NJ TE Jack Tabb has him with a top four with no Rutgers, but another has Rutgers in Tabb's top five. Tiebreaker says no go, so it's probably Calhoun or maybe Malleck at tight end then.

NJ ATH Bill Belton really needs extra time to decide between his three finalists?

Cincinnati, Penn State and West Virginia are the schools he is referring to.

Tanner McEvoy, Sheldon Royster, and possibly Max Issaka have scheduled visits to Michigan.

So NY WR/S Bam Reddish finally talked about his favorites.

The 5-foot-11 Reddish, who was recently named The Post’s All-City football Player of the Year, recently took official visits to Syracuse and Connecticut, but he doesn’t play on making a commitment until National Signing Day on Feb. 3. He hopes to take all five of his official visits before then and wants to see Penn State and Maryland. He has yet to decide on what school would be No. 5 -- West Virginia, Virginia, Boston College and Rutgers are in the mix, too.

Yes, I am rolling my eyes at Reddish believing Syracuse's pitch when Rutgers has five N.Y.C. players on scholarship to SU's four.

PA DE Branden Jackson isn't sure yet on his fifth visit. His teammate Delvon Simmons visited Texas Tech. Still nada from PA OG/DT Brandon Clemons.

'12 PA OL Chris Muller favors PSU. OL J.J. Denman is looking at schools.

FL OG Kaleb Johnson has RU in his top 3 with UNC and UL. FL DE Ramik Wilson has Rutgers in his top four, but UGA is the favorite. BTW, RU just offered his junior teammate OT Pat Miller.

VA CB Demetrious Nicholson committed to UVA. PA RB Jameel Poteat committed to Cincy, although I doubt his recruitment is over. MA DB Albert Louis-Jean switched from Miami to BC.

Watchlist: This is a section of this site's weekly recruiting posts featuring links to players that Rutgers may or may not be showing interest in, but has not yet offered.

Josh Goldsboro, Kevin MonangaiIan ThomasDavid Tinsley, and Sean Tobin.
