Ok, time to get back into the swing of things and catch up on some things I missed because of Thanksgiving. Interestingly enough, fourth-year junior tight ends Evan Lampert (a walk-on) and Fabian Ruiz, and walk-on back Tyrone Putman were announced Friday during the pre-game Senior Day announcements. Ruiz leaving would free up another scholarship for recruiting, although that number will be in flux for another few weeks. That does not necessarily mean that the three players are moving on, but other fourth-year juniors Manny Abreu, Des Wynn, Justin Francis, Al-Ghaffar Lane, Joe Martinek, Mason Robinson, Caleb Ruch, Des Stapleton, and San San Te were not announced (all play a lot except Lane). None of the three juniors were major contributors, although Lampert and Ruiz have seen some time as backup tight ends. On a similar note, fifth-year senior fullback Edmond Laryea was not honored specifically because the football program wants to petition for another year of eligibility. Laryea was off to a good start as a blocker this year before getting hurt. He would absolutely be an asset in 2011; especially if Rutgers emphasizes the run more next year.
