Rutgers football recruiting update for the week of 11/23

Committed Players

Keith Sargeant caught up with future Scarlet Knights Mike Bimonte and Daryl Stephenson as Manalapan and Sayreville were poised to play last week. Stephenson is yet another prospect playing in December's Chesapeake Bowl All-Star game. Bimonte played well, but it wasn't enough for the win.

ATH Chevelle Buie carried 16 times for 68 yards on the week.

Uncommitted Players

NJ OL Josue Matias is back from Wisconsin.

Matias said he has an official visit to Georgia scheduled for this coming weekend. After that he will take official visits to Rutgers and Florida. He is not sure of the dates for those last two trips.

If you're worried about UNC here, they've already has loaded up on OL commits. There's some speculation though that Kiaro Holts will switch to Virginia Tech. That's not the only rumor right now about UNC's class taking late hits; they actually just lost a DE to UVA, which kind of hurts for Branden Jackson. Basically Rutgers fans have to root for UNC to either rake their ACC competition over the coals, or to get hit by sanctions early enough so their class disintegrates into a thousand pieces.

Speaking of which, besides UNC, it's also worth noting that Notre Dame just lost their RB commit to Michigan. Both of ND's coordinators are from New Jersey, but they haven't been as much of a presence here this year as they were under Charlie Weis. Wonder if that changes after all of their recent defections. Huggins, Miles Shuler, Ishaq Williams, and others were expected to be in attendance for their game against Army last week.

With Rutgers badly needing help on the OL, what's the latest on JUCO Dan Heiar?

Heiar grew up in Iowa and that could give the Hawkeyes an advantage. However, Iowa will have both starting tackles return next season, so his odds of earning a starting spot would seem to be much less than elsewhere.

Food for thought: St. Peter's Prep has three top prospects this year, but Don Bosco and their crazy junior class rolled Prep 37-0 last week. Wow. Next up for the Ironmen are St. Joe's and Bergen Catholic.

NJ TE Jack Tabb visited Michigan last week.

PA DT/OL Delvon Simmons plans to visit Florida and UNC. PSU really should have offered him earlier instead of jumping in late. I'm sure they'll sign 10+ players in the end, but only having five commits in late November is ridiculous if Joe Paterno really is coming back in 2011.

2012 NJ ATH Devon Fuller picked up a BC offer. 2012 NJ LB Kaiwan Lewis is getting SEC interest.

MD OL Donovan Smith is visiting Rutgers for the Louisville game.

There was no mention of RU from PA DT Brandon Clemons in a new article, which makes that one from last week look even more suspect.

FL DE Chad Hannah is another Friday visitor here. FL OL Erinn Joe isn't mentioning Rutgers, nor is FL S Corian Hamilton. Does FL DT Elkino Watson have an offer? I always fall behind in keeping track of Florida or JUCO offers.

FL WR Sammy Watkins committed to Clemson. It probably means nothing to us, but two FSU Aquinas commits are back on the market.

Watchlist: This is a section of this site's weekly recruiting posts featuring links to players that Rutgers may or may not be showing interest in, but has not yet offered.

Mike DeTroia, Jamal Merritt, Kevin Monangai, Brandon Napoleon, and Isaiah Stallings.
