Several top locals were taking in practice on Saturday.
Among the recruits in attendance during practice were: RB Savon Huggins (St. Peter’s Prep); OL Keith Lumpkin (St. Peter’s Prep); OL Tommy Jordan (Ridgefield, Conn.); RB Charles Davis (Neptune); ATH Miles Shuler; (Long Branch); QB Matt Johnson (Bishop McDevitt, Pa.); DT Johnathan Jenkins (Mississippi Gulf Coast J.C.) and TE Kyle Carter (William Penn High, Del.).
Coach Schiano understands the value of keeping everyone home.
Davis, a Neptune, N.J., running back, wore a Rutgers jacket as he patrolled the sidelines.
"We get to go in and spend some time with them now, visit with them and their families," Schiano said after practice. "That’s one of the huge benefits with where we’re located. People can make it here and it doesn’t have to be an overnighter, big trip. They can get here in an hour. We have to make sure we can keep making that part of our Rutgers advantage."
He also expounded on his interest in recruiting Pennsylvania at a banquet in State College.
"Each year, we kind of move out a little bit further," Schiano said. "We really recruit from our home (New Jersey) into Central Pa. That’s kind of where we stop. But we’ve had some really good football players from eastern Pennsylvania and central Pennsylvania."
Connor Wujciak spent the weekend at BC.
Wujciak said he hopes he is able to make his decision before the start of his senior season but he wouldn’t make any guarantees. He said he doesn’t have any favorites, nor does he have a timetable for narrowing his list.
Maryland ATH Darius Jennings can play all over the field. DE OL Trip Thurman is touring the South, and will soon visit Rutgers. DC DT Kevin McReynolds is thinking UNC, but his next visit is to Rutgers. PA lineman Brandon Clemons is coming back from Clemson, and will hit up Rutgers next weekend.
Florida ATH Terrell Floyd is now claiming an offer. WR Andre Davis added one from Arkansas.
MA CB Albert Jean-Louis committed to Miami. I think PSU bungled that one by not offering early enough. Wonder if that will continue to be an issue going forward.
Watchlist: Deion Barnes, Jazzmar Clax, Gordon Hill, Myles Jackson, Kyshoen Jarrett, Corey Majors, Shawn Oakman, Antoine Pozniak, Shawn Robinson, Artie Rowell, Tyree Smallwood, and Ricky Trinidad.
