Last week was slow, with the bowl, the holidays, and recruiting officially being in a dead period, which lasts until January 4th.
Recruiting entered a "dead period," Sunday, meaning Rutgers' coaches are prohibited from speaking to any potential prospects through the end of the year. Schiano said his staff can still send e-mails and handwritten notes, and prep for the one week after the new year when contact can again commence.
QB Chas Dodd was injured in the South Carolina North-South All-Star game, and subsequently pulled out of the upcoming national Offense-Defense All-American Bowl.
Rutgers commit Casey Turner was the best back in the Jacksonville area this past season.
On the heels of several injuries, SC RB Mustafa Greene wanted to make up for lost time in last weekend's Shrine Bowl.
DB Lorenzo Waters is down to a top 5 of Cal, Iowa, Maryland, Rutgers, and Wake Forest. The Washington Post named WR Brandon Coleman its player of the year. He'll be playing this weekend in the Under Armour All-American game.
Coleman has yet to make his college choice, but it is believed that Maryland and Rutgers are the two schools he is strongly considering. Keithline said he does not expect Coleman to announce his choice before the National Letter-of-Intent signing period begins on Feb. 3.
FL WR Ace Sanders has had quite the season. He's still trying to set up a visit to Rutgers. I interpret Maurice Smith's tweet about Tim Smith as "doesn't have the grades, or he'd be going to a FCS school". That's burned us a couple times lately, although arguably those kids would be looking at bigger fish if they had more options. In lieu of an expected frenzy of poaching about to hit Florida, Jeremy Deering has received a verbal offer from the Gators. CB Dionte Ponder is considered a Duke lean. I think down there is where most of the action will be over the coming month, so I'm watching to see what else pops up.
SI's Andy Staples has a good takedown of that WSJ article making the rounds about the value of recruiting rankings. Urban Meyer, well... if you're wondering what exactly is going on, it's probably a ploy to fight back against all the regional powerhouses in the southeast at each other's throats to poach recruits.
There was a long profile on Bosco coach Greg Toal in the Ledger over the weekend.
DE T.J. Clemmings finally ended his recruitment saga, so I now have him as a Pitt verbal on the board. FL RB Devon Wright committed to Minnesota. FL ATH Corvin Lamb committed to Louisville. Notorious goggle-wearing hipster LB/S Josh Furman committed to Michigan at the Crab Bowl, where he'll try to play without the benefit of peripheral vision. As long expected, S Brandon Ifill committed to Pitt. C Brandon Linder committed to Miami. Might as well retire the 2010 board at this point.
Watchlist: Jamal Abdur-Rahman, Devon Cajuste, Paul Canaveri, Kyoshen Jarrett, Kelby Johnson, David Mackall, Hank McCloud, Evan Mulrooney, Gary Nova/Tanner McEvoy, Sean Reaver (also has info on rumors of future WVU decommits), Corey Reeder, Artie Rowell, and Quentin Williams
